Jewish Pro-Israel lobby groups may be denounced by some lefty civil liberties’ organizations and terrorists – but it is hard to argue with B’nai Brith’s success in stopping discussion, silencing genocide critics and getting dissenters punished or fired. Here’s a brief rundown:
- Thank God there was a stand-in to take the place of the super-busy B’nai Brith on Wednesday night! The Munk Centre at the University of Toronto did the heavy lifting for B’nai Brith. The Munk Centre had a debate on the two-state solution for Israel. All four debaters were Israeli (pro-genocide) Jews. Samira Mohyeddin, who just a week ago won the 2025 Ken Filkow Prize from PEN Canada for advancing freedom of expression in Canada, was barred from the debate. Though she had bought two tickets, the Munk Centre still shut her out – and not a moment too soon. No one wants her asking questions about the two Gaza brothers, age 8 and 10, killed deliberately this week by the IDF as they collected firewood.

- Halfway through her final year of nursing school, the University of Manitoba (U of M) suspended Arij Al Khafagi. The administration also placed a five-year reprimand on her academic transcript. The university said it acted on two anonymous complaints that Al Khafagi’s social media posts were antisemitic. According to a U of M history professor (who is Jewish) and supported her,
“Some Zionist faculty at U of M, and the Jewish student organization Hillel, hand in hand with the off-campus organization B’nai Brith” are engaged “in a campaign of reporting what they experience as hateful and frightening speech […] in a calculated maneuver to support the current Israeli war effort.”
Al Khafagi’s posts opposed Israel’s violence against Palestinians in Gaza—this was three months into the genocide. But unfortunately, B’nai Brith’s accusations didn’t hold. After an investigation and hearing two months later, Al Khafagi was finally cleared, her suspension and reprimand lifted.

- A new exhibit, Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present, is due to open in June 2026 at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights (CMHR) in Winnipeg. The pro-Israel forces are exerting political pressure to try to kill the exhibit, and behind the scenes shenanigans including crying and screaming –no doubt. B’nai Brith insists they should be consulted on the show which is “a polarizing issue… a subject of controversy in the present day.” I wonder why no one in B’nai Brith wants to talk about the current displacement and genocide against millions of Palestinians in Gaza whose homes, families and lives Israel has destroyed? B’nai Brith warns CMHR of “engaging in one-sided politics, not history.” B’nai Brith’s CEO Simon Wolle noted “we are concerned that it [the exhibit] will sideline the voices of Jewish Canadians and promote revisionist narratives.” Pardon me? Did anyone get the chance to challenge the one-sided Israeli narrative for seventy-five years?

- At one Canadian medical school, a Muslim medical professor suggested to the dean that they have a department meeting on the Gaza situation—after all this was months into the genocide. B’nai Brith or someone dependable from the pro-Israel lobby, made sure that didn’t happen. The dean, insultingly, sent the medical prof the university’s policy on hate-speech. Job over—no more talk of a seminar on Israel’s genocide.
- In 2024, B’nai Brith bragged that it got Birju Dattani turfed before he could even start his job as Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission. The headline on B’nai Brith’s site says Victory: Canadian Human Rights Commissioner Resigns Following B’nai Brith Advocacy. Dattani, a racialized Muslim Canadian, fell victim to the pro-Israel campaign of civil terror aimed at silencing critics of Israel’s genocide. B’nai Brith, and two other pro-Israel lobby organizations, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre (FSWC) accused him of antisemitism, and smeared him for associating with people who support Palestine. In fact, the federal government launched an investigation into charges of Dattani’s antisemitism and found,
“Based on Mr. Dattani’s evidence, the scholarship that was reviewed and provided, we cannot find that Mr. Dattani harboured or harbours any beliefs that would be characterized as anti-Semitic or that he has demonstrated any biases (conscious or unconscious) towards Jews or Israelis.”
Is there any other ethnic group in Canada that gets to tell the government whom to appoint to a human rights portfolio? Perhaps B’nai Brith didn’t tell the government whom to appoint– just whom to exclude. And in doing so, the pro-Israel lobby can severely limit the list of candidates. For more on the tragedy on Dattani read my articles here and here.
B’nai Brith got 4 servers fired from Moxies
- The antisemitism smear has reached as far as the chain restaurant, Moxies. On B’nai Brith’s insistence the company fired four employees after they dared to cheer for pro-Palestinian protesters in downtown Toronto. B’nai Brith’s director of research Richard Robertson pushed Moxies to fire the employees because they displayed their sympathy toward the Palestinians “while they were actively on shift,” thus violating the terms of their employment. Yes of course – B’nai Brith sees as its role to keep employers in line, and make sure to police their employees.
- Finally B’nai Brith has a seven point program to criminalize criticism of Israel’s genocide. B’nai Brith and other pro-Israel lobby groups don’t just harass, vilify and punish people, they want supporters of Palestinians to be jailed. B’nai Brith demands changes Canada’s Criminal Code to increase penalties for hate-crimes; prohibit the wearing of face masks of any type during protests; and outlaw the display of flags and emblems of “Listed Terror entities.” B’nai Brith tried unsuccessfully in November to obtain an court injunction to prevent the raising of the Palestinian flag at Toronto City Hall.
And not a second too soon! City Hall in Fredericton NB followed suit and raised the Palestinian flag last week.
B’nai Brith’s job is to keep civil terror alive and well in this country – just speaking out against Israel’s genocide could end your job, your career, your education and more. If you doubt it, just keep watching B’nai Brith.
B’nai Brith should be allowed to vet all political candidates, plus vet for awards, and academic posts
I have a great idea. Why don’t we give B’nai Brith a contract to vet all hirings, vet award winners, vet teachers, professors, restaurant staff, lawyers, retail stores, companies and doctors. After all, for the 10th time, the pro-Israel lobby group UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) complained to the General Medical Council about UK surgeon Professor Ghassan Abu Sittah a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Dr Abu Sittah has volunteered many times to operate in hospitals in Gaza. The UKLFI claims his social media posts render him “unfit to practice medicine” and he “poses a risk to patients”. The Jewish lawyers’ group tried to get his medical license suspended. Though it hasn’t worked ten times – there’s always next time. And with the pro-Israel lobby there will always be a next time.
